Hours before Hurricane Hermine Makes Landfall, County and City Remind
Residents of Safety Precautions
From Thursday evening through Friday, Leon County and the City of Tallahassee recommend drivers stay off roads whenever possible. Heavy rainfall and strong winds with gusts up to 75 mph will make driving dangerous. Even after the storm passes, residents should avoid travel to allow first responders and Public Works crews to quickly remove debris and respond to emergency needs.
With high winds from Hurricane Hermine, County and City first responders and crews will respond to emergency calls and downed trees when travel on roadways is safe. If wind speeds are high, emergency responders will not be on the roads due to the concerns for safety.
City Utilities would also like to remind citizens that they need to treat a wire on the ground as dangerous. If you see a downed wire, please do not go near it, touch it, walk over it or drive over it. To report downed wires, please call 891-4YOU (4968).
