Funding for Two Leon County Projects Included in

Federal Appropriations Package

This week, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on a bipartisan basis to pass H.R. 2471, an omnibus spending package consisting of all 12 federal fiscal year 2022 appropriations bills. In addition to providing funding for the federal government, the bill includes line-item funding for Leon County’s Concord School Restoration Project and the Lake Henrietta Stormwater Project, both sponsored by U.S. Congressman Al Lawson.

“Leon County is thrilled to partner with the federal government to complete these two important projects in our community,” said Chairman Bill Proctor of the Leon County Commission. “This funding demonstrates how fortunate the County is to have Congressman Lawson’s strong representation in Congress.”

H.R. 2471 includes $1 million to support the restoration and transformation of the historic Concord School building in the Miccosukee community. The County will provide a local match of $850,000. This project will enable Leon County to consolidate the existing Miccosukee Community Center, which has reached the end of its life cycle, into the Concord School building.

The bill also includes $1.6 million to support the major restoration of the 18-year-old Lake Henrietta stormwater facility in Leon County. The County will provide matching funds in the amount of $400,000. This project will serve as a long-term solution to reducing sediment and litter from the lake, and in turn, improve water quality flowing to Lake Munson and ultimately to Wakulla Springs.

“Securing federal funding for not one, but two County projects is an excellent example of how Leon County works alongside our partners to produce big results for our community,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “This funding reinforces our County’s commitment to delivering high quality projects in shaping our community and serving our citizens.”

The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2471 on March 9, and the U.S. Senate is expected to vote on the legislation in the coming days.
