In celebration of the Leon County 2024 NEA Big Read and the Tallahassee-Leon County Bicentennial, Leon County Government invites the community to the next installment of the award-winning Library Lecture Series on Saturday, March 30, from 2-3 p.m. at the downtown Main Library. Incorporating themes from the 2024 NEA Big Read selection The Bear by Andrew Krivak, the informative and hands-on event, “Keeping History Alive: The Power of Tradition and Storytelling,” will focus on how generational storytelling and oral traditions help guide the people of today.
During this all-ages program, Misty Penton will discuss the importance of keeping history alive by passing stories, experiences, and knowledge from generation to generation. Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore artifacts from the Muscogee Creek Nation.
Speaker Misty Penton is a Tradition Keeper and Storyteller for the Muscogee Nation of Florida, White Earth Tribal Town. She is also the Education Director for The Museum at Fred George Park and Greenway, operated by the Wildwood Preservation Society.
This program is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be provided. To learn more about the upcoming event, visit LeonCountyFL.gov/GetEngaged.
Since 2017, the Leon County Library Lecture Series has featured more than two dozen local, regional, and national speakers to engage and inspire the community with thoughtful discussions about topics in the arts and sciences.
