County Library Lecture Highlights Importance of Reading Diverse Books to Children with Dr. Lakeisha Johnson

WHO:  Leon County Government
WHAT:  Leon County Library Lecture Series
WHEN:  Saturday, January 21 at 10:30 a.m.
WHERE:  LeRoy Collins Leon County Main Library, 200 West Park Ave.

Join Leon County Government for the next award-winning Library Lecture Series on Saturday, January 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the downtown Main Library, 200 West Park Avenue. During this family-friendly event, hear from Florida State University Assistant Professor Dr. Lakeisha Johnson as she discusses the importance of reading diverse books with children and building strong language and literacy skills for all ages.

The lecture will explore how books allow children to see reflections of themselves, their own experiences, and the world that others live in. By reading diverse books, children have the opportunity to step into other worlds using their imagination.

After the lecture, families are invited to participate in hands-on activities that support strong literacy foundations and explore all the downtown Main Library has to offer. Attendees will also get a sneak peek of the Library’s Book Nook Bundle Kits, a new literacy resource in partnership with the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCCR) that patrons will soon be able to check out using their library card.

The Leon County Library Lecture Series is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
