County Hits Homerun with Baseball-Themed Playground at Canopy Oaks Community Park

Leon County Government proudly announces the installation of new and improved playground equipment at Canopy Oaks Community Park, 3250 Point View Dr. Designed to support and encourage expressive play, the baseball-themed area fits seamlessly into the park and enhances the community's quality of life through outdoor recreation.

“The County remains committed to growing and improving our green spaces for families and children,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Nick Maddox. “Children need safe play spaces to promote mental and physical well-being, and this community park does just that.”

The community’s first baseball-themed playground is sure to be a “hit” with users. Designed for children ages two to twelve, the playground features turf play surfaces and uses colors complementary to the Northwest Little League baseball teams that call the park home.

“All of Leon County will benefit from this imaginative, baseball-themed playground at Canopy Oaks,” said Leon County District 3 Commissioner Rick Minor. “Nearby community members will now have a new, safe opportunity to enjoy outdoor play, especially during little league events.”

In addition, the playground includes two baseball-shaped bouncers and a large baseball etched into the synthetic turf play surface. A new water fountain and seating area are now in place next to the playground for easy accessibility.

“The County’s continued investment at Canopy Oaks Park demonstrates our ongoing commitment to creating spaces for all ages,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “From the past formation of sports and multi-purpose fields to the new playground, our County teams have created a public space to engage and bring people together.”

Other Canopy Oaks Community Park amenities include covered picnic tables, two baseball fields, a multi-purpose field, and two tennis courts. In 2022, Leon County decided to enhance the existing playground and place it near the sports fields and restrooms.

Located directly beside Canopy Oaks Elementary School, the park is a familiar space for children and families in the area. Local sports, time with friends, or family outings are all well spent in this outdoor space. The improved playground at Canopy Oaks Park directly aligns with the County’s goal of promoting livability, health, and a sense of community by supporting strong neighborhoods, enhancing mobility and creating public spaces for people of all ages.
