*|MC_PREVIEW_TEXT|* View this email in your browser (*|ARCHIVE|*) FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, August 12 ** County EMS Reaccredited for Exceeding Highest National Standards ------------------------------------------------------------ For the fifth consecutive time, the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) conferred a three-year accreditation to Leon County Emergency Medical Services (LCEMS). The accreditation recognizes LCEMS' commitment to exceeding the highest national standards, as well as the County's organization-wide commitment to supporting the entire service. "Leon County's highest priority remains protecting public safety," said Leon County Commission Chairman Bill Proctor. "Our EMS team is among the hardest working professionals around, hands down. We are proud of their around-the-clock service to every part of our community." In 2010, Leon County EMS became Florida's first government-operated EMS to meet the rigorous CAAS standards and receive accreditation. To date, only 20 other agencies in Florida have achieved the CAAS standards. Through the County's commitment to these rigorous standards and other professional benchmarks, Leon County is proud to have a 58 percent cardiac survival rate, which is significantly higher than the national average of 18 percent. “With this stringent national reaccreditation, our community can be confident that every EMS team member responding to our more than 40,000+ calls for help will exceed the highest standards of care,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. Consistent with this commitment to success, LCEMS Chief Chad Abrams was also elected to serve on the National EMS Management Association (NEMSMA) board. As a board member of the professional association, Chief Abrams will assist EMS leaders nationwide in the discovery, development, and promotion of excellence in leadership and management of EMS systems. "To be honest, both my national board appointment and the agency's reaccreditation are all thanks to the exceptional County team and our professional EMS team," said Leon County EMS Chief Chad Abrams. "I am proud to work with so many talented and dedicated men and women, and I truly value our work for this community." In May 1984, the AAA Board of Directors authorized the formation of its Ad Hoc Committee on Accreditation and Standards. In 1990, an independent Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) was incorporated, bringing together a board of representatives from the American Ambulance Association, the Emergency Nurses Association, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, the National Association of EMS Physicians, and the National Association of State EMS Directors. In 1993, the first agencies were accredited by the Commission. Currently, there are more than 180 CAAS-accredited agencies in 39 U.S. states, Canada and the West Indies, with more than 200 agencies working on new applications. About the National EMS Management Association (NEMSMA) NEMSMA is a professional association of EMS leaders dedicated to the discovery, development, and promotion of excellence in leadership and management in EMS systems, regardless of EMS system model, organizational structure or agency affiliation. http://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=*|URL:ARCHIVE_LINK_SHORT|* Share (http://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=*|URL:ARCHIVE_LINK_SHORT|*) http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text=*|URL:MC_SUBJECT|*: *|URL:ARCHIVE_LINK_SHORT|* Tweet (http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text=*|URL:MC_SUBJECT|*: *|URL:ARCHIVE_LINK_SHORT|*) *|FORWARD|* Forward (*|FORWARD|*) ============================================================ ** Leon County Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/LeonCounty) ** Leon County Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/LeonCountyFL/) ** Instagram (http://instagram.com/LeonCounty) ** Leon County LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/leoncountyfl) ** Leon County YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCggY5RGiWzheTRhrKcpO1Rw) ** Leon County Pinterest (https://www.pinterest.com/leoncountygovernment/) ** Leon County Links (www.LeonCountyFL.gov) ** Email (mailto:cmr@leoncountyfl.gov) Copyright © 2022 Leon County Government All rights reserved.
