County Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Library Events and Resources
Leon County Government celebrates the achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans during Hispanic Heritage Month with exhibits, a Virtual Author Talk, and resources from the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library System. Thematic book lists and movie watchlists give citizens of all ages the opportunity to learn about the inspiring Hispanic American men and women who helped shape our community and the world. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from September 15 through October 15.
In addition to these in-person and digital resources, citizens are encouraged to attend the County’s upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month events.
- Cultura Tallahassee: The Beauty of Our Heritage Exhibit, September 14-October 14, four library locations – Celebrate Hispanic culture, heritage, and history with an exhibit featuring artwork by local artists in a variety of mediums. Exhibits will be on display at the Bruce J. Host Northeast Branch Library, Dr. B.L. Perry, Jr. Branch Library, Eastside Branch Library, and Jane G. Sauls Ft. Braden Branch Library.
- La Florida: Hispanic Heritage Month, Saturday, September 14, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Eastside Branch Library – During this 2nd Saturday with the Museum of Florida History program, explore how descendants of Spanish-speaking countries have shaped the culture and history of Florida.
- Cultura Tallahassee: The Beauty of Our Heritage Exhibit Opening, Saturday, September 14, from 1 to 2 p.m., Bruce J. Host Northeast Branch Library – Enjoy artwork by local artists in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Light refreshments will be provided.
- Virtual Author Talk with Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Wednesday, October 9, at 7 p.m., virtual – During this virtual Author Talk, hear from Silvia Moreno-Garcia, New York Times bestselling author of Mexican Gothic, The Daughter of Doctor Moreau, and Gods of Jade and Shadow. Moreno-Garcia will discuss Latin American genre fiction, her writing process and journey, and her newest book, The Seventh Veil of Salome. Before the event, check out books by the author through the library using your library card!
