County and City Monitoring Tropical Storm Colin

County and City Monitoring Tropical Storm Colin

Leon County Government and the City of Tallahassee are actively monitoring Tropical Storm Colin. This afternoon, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was partially activated. The EOC, which is housed in the Public Safety Complex, located at 911 Easterwood Drive, will remain active while Tropical Storm Colin moves through the Big Bend region. From the EOC, staff will direct response and recovery efforts associated with the storm.

Leon County has opened two sand bag locations for citizens that are experiencing flooding. Sandbags may be picked up from Tekesta Park in Killearn Lakes and Apalachee Regional Park, 7550 Apalachee Parkway. These locations will not be staffed and residents will need to bring their own shovel. Sand, bags and ties will be available for public use. There is a 15 bag limit per household. County crews will monitor the site and provide additional sand bags as needed. Both sites will be open until the storm threat has passed and is determined there is no longer a need.

To assist citizens, the City of Tallahassee has opened a location where the public may obtain sand and bags. Citizens will need to bring their own shovels and be prepared to fill bags themselves. Bags and sand are available at the Messer Field South Softball Complex parking lot, located on the south side of Jackson Bluff Road between Appleyard Drive and Dupree Street. There is a 25 bag limit per household. City crews will monitor the site and provide additional sand and bags as needed. The site will be open until the storm threat has passed and it is determined there is no longer a need.
