County and City Continue Debris Removal through October

In the weeks after Hurricane Hermine, Leon County and City of Tallahassee crews have cleaned up more than two years’ worth of vegetative debris. To date, crews have cleared 328,991 cubic yards, which equates to about 65,798 tons or 20,561 truckloads. Throughout October, Waste Pro and debris contractors will focus on collecting the remaining storm-related debris in unincorporated Leon County. By the end of October, trash and yard debris removal for Leon County customers will return to the normal collection schedule. The County’s rural waste sites will remain open to dispose of other debris.

The City of Tallahassee has resumed normal operations for its customers with its red week/blue week schedule for yard waste and bulky-item pickup. This week, the City is operating on a red week.

For regular yard waste and storm debris, please bring materials to the curb by 6:30 a.m. on your regular collection day. Residents may bring bulk items out for collection, but please do not mix bulk items or household trash with storm debris or yard waste.

All storm-related debris to be collected should be placed curbside between the sidewalk or property line and the curb. Debris should be separated at the curb into the following categories: vegetative, construction and demolition, appliances and white goods, electronics and household hazardous waste.

Debris removal in the unincorporated area will be picked up according to zones. More information about the zones and schedule for pickup can be found at cms.LeonCountyFL.gov/ei/ .
