County and City Announce Summer Youth Expo to Address "Summer Slide"

WHO:  Leon County Government and the City of Tallahassee
WHAT:  2023 Summer Youth Expo
WHEN:  Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE:  Children's Services Council of Leon County offices, 2002 Old St. Augustine Road

This week, Leon County Government and the City of Tallahassee announced the upcoming 2023 Tallahassee-Leon County Summer Youth Expo. The County and City were joined by program experts, families, and community leaders to outline how this first-of-its-kind expo would connect families of all income levels with summer activity providers.

At the expo on Saturday, April 22, attendees can sign up for summer camps, jobs, volunteer opportunities, and other activities. If you're an organization offering summer activities and interested in connecting with families, you can sign up to table at no cost using this link.

Studies show that lower-income families don't have access to high-quality, engaging summer programming, leaving youth without a safe place to go or thrive while their parents are at work. This can also result in the "summer slide," where students lose some of the academic gains made during the school year.

The 2023 Tallahassee-Leon County Summer Youth Expo will showcase programming available to southside Leon County residents, particularly those with low to moderate income, such as ALICE households. The event will feature family-friendly games, giveaways, and free food and music.
