At Annual Retreat, Leon County Sets New Strategic Plan

At Annual Retreat, Leon County Sets New Strategic Plan

At this year's annual retreat, the Board of County Commissioners received the final update on Leon County's progress toward the goals outlined in the FY 2017-2021 Strategic Plan and established the priorities for the FY 2022-2026 Strategic Plan in the areas of Economy, Environment, Quality of Life and Governance.

The progress made during the FY 2017-2021 Strategic Plan cycle displays how the County remained focused on a long-term plan to produce results and deliver on its ambitious vision and bold goals for the organization and our community. The final update on the FY 2017-2021 Strategic Plan can be found in the 2017-2021 Impact and Progress Report.

“I am proud of the Commission’s work at today’s retreat and how we came together to set a course for our community to amplify our strengths, grow our opportunities, and meet our biggest threats head-on,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Bill Proctor. “The County will continue to take a long view for our community priorities while also addressing the immediate needs of the day as we keep growing and progressing.”

At this year’s retreat, the Board reviewed the progress made over the past five years and the results of the most recent Community Survey to close out the current FY2017-2021 Strategic Plan, providing a benchmark for the FY 2022-2026 Strategic Plan. The County established new strategic priorities, initiatives and five-year bold goals and targets through citizen engagement, surveying, trend reports, and SWOT analyses.

“When setting the County’s strategic plan five years ago, no one could have anticipated the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, a human tragedy of historic proportions,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “With all that in mind, the County remained agile and innovative while achieving significant successes for our community. The County will continue this progress into the next five years, as demonstrated in the County’s updated strategic plan and the work of the Board today.”

As part of the retreat, the Board established 40 strategic initiatives addressing food insecurity, homelessness, affordable housing, water quality, poverty, and disaster response. Additionally, the Board discussed enhancing public infrastructure, ensuring high-value and transparent community engagement, improving the emergency medical response strategies, and continuing coordination of local COVID-19 response and recovery.

The strategic priorities and initiatives discussed today will come back before the Board for final approval and ratification in February 2022.
