Spring Seed Library Kickoff

2026 Spring Seed Library Kickoff
Saturday, February 14, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Leon County Main Library, 200 West Park Avenue

 
Join us for the 2026 Spring Seed Library kickoff event on Saturday, February 14, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Leon County Main Library where you can choose from 10 seed varieties to build your spring garden, participate in educational activities, and learn how to create a successful home garden.

Starting February 14, visit any library location and check out up to five seed packets per month using your library card, or three packets per month without a library card, while supplies last. Don't have a library card or need a replacement? Register online for a library card today.

Smart Money Moves: Free Tax Help and Financial Literacy Programs

Leon County Government, through the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library System, is offering free tax assistance and financial literacy programs to help residents build confidence in managing their finances. From February to April, residents can meet one-on-one with a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ for personalized guidance, or attend workshops focused on taxes, credit, and financial planning.
 
All programs are free and open to the public.

The Leon Works Junior Apprenticeship Program provides a platform for high school juniors and seniors to immerse themselves in a skilled career field, earn an hourly salary, and receive class credit. Apprentices will have the opportunity to train with experts in a variety of Leon County departments and fast-track their career goals. Applications are open now for the fall 2026 semester for the following positions:
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD)
  • Construction Contract Management
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic
  • Fleet Mechanic
  • Graphic and Digital Design
  • Information Technology
  • Medical Administration
  • Web Development
The application deadline is Tuesday, March 31.

Leon Works Expo Exhibitor Registration Now Open
Register as an exhibitor by Friday, April 3.
 
Make connections and build opportunities as an exhibitor during the 11th annual Leon Works Expo. Leon County Government and the Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality will host the Expo on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. This is a unique opportunity to connect high school students who will soon be entering the workforce with potential employers and the chance to explore skilled careers.

Celebrate Our Community at the Woodville Founders Day Festival
Celebrate the rich history and vibrant spirit of the Woodville community at the 14th Annual Woodville Founders Day Festival, while supporting your Woodville Volunteer Fire Department. Experience a fun, family-friendly day on Saturday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at J. Lewis Hall Sr. Woodville Park, 1492 J. Lewis Hall Sr. Lane, with historic displays, live performances, cultural demonstrations, raffles, food trucks, and vendors galore while celebrating community pride and tradition.

Farm Share Food Distribution in Woodville
Carter’s Corner, with support from Leon County, is hosting a free food distribution to support Leon County families and residents. The event will take place on Saturday, February 7, at 9 a.m. at the Leon County J. Lewis Hall Sr. Woodville Park, 1492 J. Lewis Hall Sr. Lane. Food will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be distributed while supplies last. No registration required. To accommodate traffic, organizers ask attendees to enter Woodville Park from the north side of Old Woodville Road.

NW Connector Corridor: Tharpe Street Project Public Meeting
The Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency will hold a public information meeting for the Northwest Connector Corridor: Tharpe Street Project on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Abundant Life and Restoration Ministries (ALARM) International Church, 2532 W. Tharpe Street. Representatives will be available to discuss proposed improvements, answer questions, and receive comments.

Property Tax Exemptions
Leon County property owners who own and occupy their home may be eligible for homestead or other property tax exemptions. The annual filing deadline is March 1. Eligibility is based on permanent residence as of January 1, and exemptions do not transfer between properties automatically. Don’t miss this opportunity to reduce your property tax bill.
