County Celebrates New Home Made Possible
Through Affordable Housing Program

With a continued focus to address the pressing need of affordable housing, Leon County Government proudly welcomed a new homeowner into their new home through the County’s Homeownership Development Program.

“Today we celebrate homeownership and reaffirm our commitment to make Leon County a special place where everyone can find an affordable home,” said Leon County Commission Chair Carolyn D. Cummings. “I am very proud of the County work that empowers the residents of our community to become homeowners.”

The County’s Homeownership Development Program is designed to fund the development of homes for low-income, first-time buyers through partnerships with businesses and nonprofit organizations. The new home, located in the Callen neighborhood, was built by Kingdom First Realty.

"Safe, affordable housing allows families to remain in the neighborhoods they cherish,” said Leon County District 2 Commissioner Christian Caban. “This initiative doesn't just improve their lives—it also breathes new life and energy into our County."

This new home marks more progress in the County's ongoing efforts to preserve and grow the inventory of safe and sanitary affordable housing options for all residents. Further, the home was developed with funds from the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) Program.

"With the County’s commitment to increasing the inventory of affordable housing, we're able to make significant projects like this one a reality," said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. "Our Homeownership Development Program highlights the County's dedication to maintaining and enhancing affordable housing.”

The Leon County Division of Housing Services plays a crucial role in this endeavor by reviewing applications, verifying eligibility, and ensuring compliance with SHIP and other related programs.

"This home is the result of intentionality,” said Christic Henry, owner of Kingdom First Realty. "As business owners and neighbors in the southside of Leon County, it gives us great satisfaction to develop a new home and welcome a new neighbor to our beloved community."

“I am deeply grateful for the investment that Leon County has made in not just a house, but a home for my family,” said the new homeowner. “This program has turned our dream of homeownership into a reality, and for that, I cannot thank the County enough.”
