County Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Library Events and Resources

Leon County Government celebrates the achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans during Hispanic Heritage Month with a Library Lecture Series, exhibit, and resources from the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library System. Thematic book lists and movie watchlists give citizens of all ages the opportunity to learn about the inspiring Hispanic American men and women who helped shape our community and the world. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from September 15 through October 15.

In addition to these in-person and digital resources, citizens are encouraged to attend the County’s upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month events.

  • “Cultura Tallahassee: Together We Shine” Exhibit, September 15-October 14, downtown Main Library – Celebrate Hispanic culture, heritage, and history with this exhibit featuring artwork by local artists in a variety of mediums.
  • “Cultura Tallahassee: Together We Shine” Exhibit Opening, Saturday, September 16, from 12-2 p.m., downtown Main Library – Enjoy artwork by local artists in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Light refreshments will be provided.
  • Library Lecture Series: “Rhythms of Panama: A Journey Through Dance and Culture,” Thursday, September 21, at 6 p.m., downtown Main Library – Join us for an immersive performance by Simply Panama as they explore Panamanian history and culture through folkloric dance. During the performance, attendees can also delight in Panamanian fare and coffee from Habana's Boardwalk.

Throughout the month and all year long, Leon County Government is proud to celebrate the many contributions of Hispanic Americans to history, culture, and society. See a complete list of resources and events at LeonCountyFL.gov/HispanicHeritageMonth.
