Celebrate the Season with STEM Fun and Sweet Creations at the Leon County Public Library

Celebrate the season with hands-on discovery during Leon County Government’s Winter Wonders: Exploring Science at all Leon County Public Library locations this December and January. Families can spark curiosity through engaging science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities and crafts inspired by the wonders of winter.

Hands-on activities including fake snow, dancing snowflakes, Lego ski races, DIY catapults, and more allow children to experiment, observe, and learn scientific principles and engineering concepts in a fun, creative environment.

The community can experience Winter Wonders: Exploring Science on the following dates:
  • Saturday, December 6, from 1-4 p.m. – Leon County Main Library, 200 West Park Avenue
  • Saturday, December 6, from 1-3 p.m. – Northeast Branch Library, 5513 Thomasville Road
  • Saturday, January 3, from 1-3 p.m. – Woodville Branch Library, 8000 Old Woodville Road
  • Saturday, January 17, from 1-3 p.m. – Eastside Branch Library, 1583 Pedrick Road, and Fort Braden Branch Library, 16327 Blountstown Highway
  • Saturday, January 24, from 1-3 p.m. – Lake Jackson Branch Library, 3840 North Monroe Street, and Dr. B.L. Perry, Jr. Branch Library, 2817 South Adams Street

This year’s Winter Wonders event on Saturday, December 6, at the downtown Main Library will also feature the Seventh Annual Community Gingerbread House Competition from 1-4 p.m. Visitors can enjoy all the Winter Wonders activities while admiring the creative gingerbread houses competing for prizes in four divisions:
  • Child, ages birth to five
  • Child, ages six to 11
  • Teen, ages 12 to 17
  • Adult, 18 and older
For details on how to participate in the Seventh Annual Community Gingerbread House Competition, visit LeonCountyLibrary.org/Gingerbread.

In addition to the competition, Leon County will host two No-Bake Gingerbread House Workshops, where participants can create their own gingerbread houses:
  • Thursday, December 4, from 6-7:30 p.m. – Eastside Branch Library, 1583 Pedrick Road
  • Saturday, December 13, from 2-3:30 p.m. – Fort Braden Branch Library, 16327 Blountstown Highway
