Leon County, City of Tallahassee Invites Community to Plant Trees this Arbor Day

Volunteers to Plant Dozens of Trees at the Annual Arbor Day Tree Planting Event

WHO:  Leon County Government and the City of Tallahassee
WHAT:  Arbor Day Tree Planting
WHEN:  Saturday, January 20, starting at 8 a.m.
WHERE:  Anita L. Davis Preserve at Lake Henrietta Park, 3305 Springhill Rd.

Leon County Government and the City of Tallahassee will host the annual Arbor Day Tree Planting event in celebration of Florida’s Arbor Day on Saturday, January 20, 2024, starting at 8 a.m. at the Anita L. Davis Preserve at Lake Henrietta Park. Register to volunteer at VolunteerLeon.org/ArborDay.

This event supports and strengthens the hundreds of native and migratory species that call Leon County home, while also contributing to the beautification of the community and the overall improvement of the environment. Numerous native tree species will be available for planting including River Burch, Eastern Red Bud, American Beech, Tulip Poplar, Ashe Magnolia, and Water Tupelo among many others.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toed shoes and dress appropriately for the weather in clothes suitable for hands-on activities. Participants should also bring their own water, if able. While a limited quantity of gloves and shovels will be available at the event, attendees are encouraged to bring their own shovels and gloves for optimal participation. Snacks and coffee will be provided and the event will run from 8 a.m. until the last tree is planted.

The annual Arbor Day Tree Planting event is one of the County’s many ways to protect our local ecosystem and value our environment and natural beauty as a vital component of our community’s health, economic strength and social offerings. Another initiative, Adopt-A-Tree, has led to the planting of thousands of native trees in our community by providing free trees to citizens.
