Travel Channel Names Tallahassee a Great Small Town for Big Vacations

The Travel Channel selected Tallahassee-Leon County as one of “10 Great Small Towns for Big Vacations.” The article designates the capital city and surrounding areas in Leon County as gateways to outdoor adventure and family fun.

Notable attractions mentioned in the article include Bradfordville Blues Club, Florida’s only site on the National Blues Trail, Tallahassee Museum’s Tree to Tree Adventures, a zip line through a cypress swamp, Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park, the world's largest and deepest freshwater spring and other outdoor activities like paddling through one of Tallahassee’s five rivers.

“The uniqueness of our area continues to gain the attention of national media that recognize Leon County’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Nick Maddox. “We know that we live in an exceptional part of Florida and we think it’s time the rest of the nation, and the world, knows it, too.”

The article, written by Steve Larese, resulted from an invitation by Leon County to experience what the area has to offer. He was one of dozens of travel writers who visited the Leon County area while researching stories for various publications. Larese described America’s smaller communities, like Tallahassee, as having some of the most breathtaking scenery and richest cultural experiences in the country.

“To be counted among the country’s small towns for big adventure demonstrates the hard work of Leon County Division of Tourism in elevating and promoting what our community has to offer both visitors and residents,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long.

The County’s economic impact from tourism continues to grow year after year because of signature events, sports and features just like this. Leon County Tourism proudly promotes Tallahassee-Leon County nationally as a premier travel destination to journalists and writers.

Tallahassee/Leon County offers a variety of attractions from performing arts to outdoors and nature year-round. For information about additional offerings, visit VisitTallahassee.com.
