On Earth Day, County Hosts Shoreline Cleanup at Lake Henrietta

WHO:  Leon County Government
WHAT:  Lake Henrietta Shoreline Litter Cleanup
WHEN:  Saturday, April 22 at 9 a.m.
WHERE:  Anita L. Davis Preserve, 3305 Springhill Road

In celebration of Earth Day, Leon County Government will host a community shoreline cleanup on Saturday, April 22, at the Anita L. Davis Preserve at Lake Henrietta, 3305 Springhill Road. This event will allow citizens to engage in litter pickup and will present an opportunity for education on the function and importance of Leon County’s stormwater facilities. To register, visit LeonCountyFL.gov/LakeCleanup.

Volunteers will explore the shoreline and surrounding areas of the lake to gather and properly dispose of litter. The event will begin at 9 a.m., and refreshments will be provided. Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. The Leon County Office of Resource Stewardship and Public Works departments will present information about Lake Henrietta as a stormwater facility and how the lake and other stormwater facilities like it benefit Leon County’s water systems as a whole.

Lake Henrietta provides an important water management function for connected waterbodies, like Lake Munson. The Lake Munson drawdown has exposed the banks of Lake Henrietta, leading to this unique community engagement clean-up event.

The shoreline cleanup will connect citizens to nature in a mindful way that reminds us all to protect our natural resources. It is a great way to experience the unique environmental attractions Leon County is known for. Lake cleanups not only provide a fun way to give back, but they also protect and preserve our water quality, providing a stable habitat for local wildlife.
