Lifelong Public Servant Jane G. Sauls
Passes Away Late Wednesday
With sadness, the Leon County family recognizes the passing of long-serving community servant Commissioner Jane G. Sauls, who died late Wednesday, February 14, 2018.
With more than 50 years of service to the community over her career, Sauls leaves behind a legacy of public service leadership. First elected to the Leon County Board of County Commissioners in 1996, Sauls was central to such key County projects as the Fort Braden Branch Library, Fort Braden Community Center, Woodville Branch Library, and the Public Safety Complex.
"Today, our thoughts and prayers are with Commissioner Sauls' family and friends, as well as the many citizens she touched in her long career of public service," said Leon County Commission Chairman Nick Maddox. "For five consecutive terms, Commissioner Sauls served the citizens of District 2 and accomplished so much. When she served on the Board, she was a symbol of steadfastness and commitment to our community. She will forever be an inspiration for elected officials and public servants everywhere.”
Sauls served the public her entire professional career, working for the Clerk of the Circuit Court’s Office for 32 years, including Clerk of the Statewide Grand Jury, and several years in the State Attorney’s Office. On October 26, 2016, the County's Fort Braden Branch Library was renamed and dedicated to Commissioner Sauls following her two decades of service to Leon County as a Commissioner.
"Commissioner Sauls was a deeply beloved member of the Leon County family whose more than half century of public service will have an enduring impact on our community," said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. "Her genuine goodness, warmth, and integrity truly made everyone around her better. While she will be profoundly missed, her spirit of public service will live on in Leon County."
