Leon County Reinstates Curfew to Protect Public Health

To further protect public health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic and to clarify the statewide order to stay at home, at Tuesday's meeting the Leon County Board of County Commissioners approved reinstating a curfew for Leon County effective tonight, Wednesday April 15 at 11 p.m. An amended proclamation establishing the curfew and declaring that all Leon County citizens should abide by the directives issued by Governor DeSantis is attached to this message and can be found at the County's Emergency Information Portal (www.LeonCountyFL.gov/ei). During the curfew, individuals may go to and from work, seek healthcare or emergency veterinary care, or walk a pet near their home.

The curfew will be in effect every day from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. and will be renewed each week along with the County's declared local state of emergency. The curfew ensures physical and social distance measures are maintained and that larger groups do not gather.

With the Governor’s order on Friday, April 3, Florida residents are encouraged to work from home and may still order delivery and take out, go to the grocery store, and go for a walk, all while being responsible and following Center for Disease Control guidance. Also, the Governor’s order defines essential activities and services, a distinction made and confirmed solely by the State of Florida. A list of essential services can be found at www.FloridaDisaster.org.

The Governor’s executive order also directs seniors and those with underlying medical conditions to stay home and orders all persons to limit their movements and perform only essential activities.

For additional information on COVID-19, the Florida Department of Health has activated a 24/7 COVID-19 call center at (866) 779-6121.
