Leon County Receives Top Technology Honors
For the eighth year in a row, Leon County ranked among the top 10 and the first in Florida in its population category in the national 2020 Digital Counties Survey. The 2020 Digital Counties Survey, conducted by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties, recognizes leaders in advanced analytics, digital equity initiatives and COVID-19 response and commends counties that deploy technology practices for social betterment.
“We’re excited to receive recognition for the eighth year in a row for our leadership in local government technology,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Bryan Desloge. “From responding to the coronavirus pandemic to finding new ways to enhance existing access to County services, we’ve stayed focused on the needs of our citizens during these challenging times.”
The annual survey evaluates how counties use information, communications and digital technologies to serve their citizens and streamline operations. Survey questions were asked in a variety of areas such as computing, networking, applications, data and cyber security, open government and mobile services. Hundreds of submissions were judged by a panel of experts. The results identify the very best examples of counties that are aligning technology to support strategic priorities.
“With the pandemic, it is now more important than ever for us to continue connecting citizens with high-quality, essential services both online and in-person,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “This top national honor recognizes our organization-wide commitment to technological innovation in public service.”
Leon County’s top marks this year showcase efforts in harnessing technology to respond to COVID-19, improve best practices and increase services and efficiencies. Just a few examples in response to the pandemic include implementing an online tracking tool for managing personal protective equipment (PPE), launching the “Open For Takeout” map to elevate local businesses and creating an online public comment process to ensure public access to virtual public meetings.
“2020 has inspired innovative digital solutions,” said Michelle Taylor Leon County Chief Information Officer. “As demand for digital services increase, we remain committed to providing the highest level of service to our organization and our citizens.”
