Leon County Makes $2.22 Million Available for Septic Upgrade Incentive Program
Enhanced nitrogen-reducing systems will protect local water sources and reduce costs for homeowners
Â
Leon County Government is proud to announce a $2.22 million grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). This funding will support the Leon County Septic Upgrade Incentive Program, aimed at assisting homeowners within the Wakulla Springs Priority Focus Area to upgrade or replace their existing septic systems.
Â
The new initiative intends to replace conventional septic systems with advanced nitrogen-reducing systems. This not only saves homeowners significant costs but also protects the local environment. If you're interested, applications are now open at LeonCountyFL.gov/SepticUpgrade. Hurry, as the funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis until fully utilized.
Â
With the Septic Upgrade Incentive Program, homeowners could receive up to $7,500 per septic system upgrade or replacement. To qualify, the replaced or upgraded septic system should utilize a nitrogen-reducing technology approved by FDEP.
Â
To take advantage of this program, homeowners will need to contract with a registered septic installer or licensed plumber. Upon the completion and approval of the work, Leon County will make the incentive payments.
Â
Switching to an advanced nitrogen-reducing system not only protects your family's health but also the surrounding environment. By producing cleaner water discharge, we safeguard our local water bodies and groundwater. This change also offers homeowners a sense of assurance, knowing their systems will continue to function efficiently in the future.
