Leon County EMS Deputy Chief Recognized for Lifetime Contribution to Public Safety

Last week, Leon County Emergency Medical Services (LCEMS) Deputy Chief Darryl Hall was recognized as a recipient of the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award during the Tallahassee Community College (TCC) Heroes in Public Safety Banquet. This award celebrates Deputy Chief Hall's remarkable 36-year career dedicated to serving the people of Leon County and recognizes his unwavering commitment to public safety and first responders.

“During his decades-long career, Chief Hall has played a critical role in the health and safety of our EMS staff and the community,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Nick Maddox. “This award reflects the commitment of Chief Hall and the entire EMS team to providing the highest quality of care to the citizens of Leon County all year long.”

A native of Jefferson County, Florida, Hall spent four years in the U.S. Army before pursuing a career in the healthcare profession. After years as a paramedic and nurse, Hall joined Leon County EMS in 2005. He spent 10 years as Quality Improvement and Education Manager where he was responsible for the quality of care provided by Leon County paramedics and training of LCEMS staff. In 2015, Hall was promoted to his current role of Deputy Chief of Operations to oversee the daily operations of LCEMS, including ambulance operations, dispatch, logistics, and special operations. 

His dedication to excellence has resulted in significant advancements in the quality and efficiency of EMS care for the citizens of Leon County. In addition to his exceptional work with LCEMS, Deputy Chief Hall has been instrumental in the development of community outreach programs, including CPR training events and public safety education initiatives. He continues to play a critical role in fostering strong partnerships between local hospitals, first responders, and other public safety organizations. 

“Leon County EMS medics are on the frontline providing lifesaving care in the most challenging of circumstances” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “As a shining example in the field of emergency medical services, Chief Hall’s commitment to the safety and well-being of the community has left a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals in Leon County and beyond.”

The TCC Heroes in Public Safety Lifetime Achievement Award is given to those who have dedicated years of service during a distinguished career, advancing the public safety profession through their leadership roles. Lifetime Achievement honorees have made extraordinary contributions through their work, which has had a positive impact on the community.

In addition to Hall’s award, LCEMS Paramedic Christian Foster was presented with the Chris Connell Young Professional Award for his level of commitment, service, and professionalism in the field. Foster, who has been with LCEMS since 2016, also serves as a field training officer to ensure that new medics are prepared to meet the high standards of LCEMS and is a member of the highly infectious disease team, which responds to and transports patients with highly infectious diseases. 

“Chief Hall has served as a role model for generations of Leon County medics, and Christian is a rising star on our EMS team,” said Leon County EMS Chief Chad Abrams. “Throughout their years of service, they have consistently demonstrated an exceptional ability to lead and inspire others in the field.”
