As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread globally, Leon County Emergency Management is committed to actively monitoring the disease and coordinating preparedness efforts with local health officials, healthcare providers, first responders and other critical emergency response functions.
The following update provides a timely, accurate and vetted source of official County and community information.
Significant Changes Since Last Update
- Leon County's Short-Term Vacation Rental Plan approved by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Leon County’s Short-Term Vacation Rental Plan allows for short-term vacation rental reservations and guests in Leon County. Consistent with Governor DeSantis’ recent executive order and implementation of a “full phase one” reopening, the County’s safety plan was developed utilizing guidance from DBPR, the CDC, and the Vacation Rental Management Association for property owners and managers to utilize once they resume hosting guests. Recognizing the priority of keeping both residents and visitors safe, the County’s plan aligns with state guidance by restricting travel from international locations and states with substantial community spread of COVID-19. Furthermore, the County’s plan outlines industry best practices and safety guidelines for property owners and managers to ensure short-term vacation rentals are opened in a responsible and safe manner. Leon County’s Division of Tourism, in coordination with Leon County Emergency Management, will continue to review these guidelines throughout each phase of Leon County’s COVID-19 Response & Reopening Plan. - 2020 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday starts tomorrow. Starting May 29 through June 4, qualifying items related to disaster preparedness are exempt from sales tax. More here.
- Mental health support provided by 2-1-1 Big Bend. 2-1-1 Big Bend is available 24 hours a day to listen and provide emotional support, crisis counseling, suicide prevention and information/referrals. More here.
- COVID-19 by the Numbers. Global cases of COVID-19 now surpass 5.7 million. According to the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) there are 379 positive cases of COVID-19 in Leon County. In Florida, there are now 53,285 positive cases of COVID-19, and 2,364 COVID-19-related deaths. These numbers are updated regularly by FDOH; visit the dashboard for more detailed information, here.
