Leon County and CONA Recognize 39th Annual

Neighborhood Awards Program Winners

At Tuesday’s Commission meeting, Leon County Government and the Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA) recognized our community’s outstanding neighborhoods and neighbors with the 39th Annual Neighborhood Awards. For nearly 40 years, Leon County and CONA have been recognizing neighborhoods that improve our quality of life and make Leon County a great place to live, work and play.

“Our neighborhoods are the backbone of our community,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Bryan Desloge." Our joint awards program recognizes neighborhoods that work to improve public safety, bring folks together, and create a sense of identity and place in the part of town they call home.”

The 2020 winners are as follows:

  • Small Neighborhood of the Year- Blairstone Homes Association
  • Large Neighborhood of the Year- Indianhead Lehigh Neighborhood Association
  • Unincorporated Neighborhood of the Year- Walden Place Homeowners Association
  • Neighbor of the Year- Rhonnie Schaeffer, Greenwood Hills

“With hundreds of eligible neighborhoods throughout Leon County, choosing just a few can be a hard task,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “Every 2020 nominee should be acknowledged for their commitment to making our community the best it can be. At the County, we are grateful for all the local leaders who dedicate their time and energy to make our neighborhoods so special.”

The 39th Annual Neighborhood Awards winners received a sign for display at their neighborhood entrances. Also, the Neighbor of the Year Award winner received a personalized plaque that highlights the individual’s leadership and service to their neighborhood.

“From neighborhood improvements to volunteer and beautification efforts, CONA is proud to work with Leon County not only on the Neighborhood Awards Recognition but also throughout the year to provide resources and support to neighborhoods and neighbors,” said CONA president LeRoy Peck. “Tallahassee-Leon County is a truly unique place because of the hard work and passion of our neighborhood leaders.”
