FAC Awards Commissioner Desloge with Presidential Advocacy Award
Desloge given award for going above and beyond during 2016 Legislative Session
The Florida Association of Counties (FAC) presented Leon County Commissioner Desloge with the Presidential Advocacy Award during the 2016 FAC Annual Conference & Exposition in Orange County.
As President-elect of the National Association of Counties and their Liaison to the FAC Federal Committee, Commissioner Desloge’s leadership and commitment to crafting sound policy was an invaluable asset to FAC this year. Desloge’s leadership was critical to advancing the Association’s legislative program during a challenging legislative session.
“It’s been an honor to serve FAC in many different ways. By working together with commissioners from around the state, we’ve been able to create a vision that has strengthened Florida’s counties,” said Commissioner Desloge. “I’m humbled by this award that recognizes our collective effort and successes.”
The Presidential Advocacy Award is given annually to those county commissioners from around the state who have shown exceptional leadership in partnering with FAC to advance the counties’ legislative agenda.
“Commissioner Desloge’s willingness to advocate for counties was not only essential to the success of FAC’s legislative efforts, but it was also of great service to the citizens of Leon County,” said FAC Executive Director Scott Shalley. “The Commissioner’s advocacy was invaluable in helping ensure that local governments are provided the flexibility and tools they need to meet the needs of Florida’s citizens.”
Commissioner Desloge has served on the Leon County Board of County Commissioners for nearly ten years and served as chair from 2008-2009. In addition to the Advanced County Commissioner certification, Commissioner Desloge graduated from FAC’s Certified County Commissioner (CCC) program and was also awarded the prestigious Presidential Advocacy Award by FAC in 2009, 2010 and 2015 for representing the interests of all counties on state issues. Over the past six years, Commissioner Desloge has served on the FAC Executive Committee in the positions of Second Vice-President, First Vice-President, President-Elect, President and Immediate Past President.
