County Unites to Honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy

 
WHO:  Leon County Government, the MLK Foundation, Inc., the Inter-Civic Council of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference
WHAT:  2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Award Ceremony
WHEN:  Wednesday, January 10, at 12 p.m.
WHERE:  Leon County Courthouse Rotunda, first floor, 301 S. Monroe St.

Leon County Government, the MLK Foundation of Florida Inc., and the Inter-Civic Council of the Southern Christian Leadership Council invite media partners to attend the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Award Ceremony on Wednesday, January 10, at 12 p.m. at the Leon County Courthouse Rotunda, 301 S. Monroe St.

The event will celebrate and honor the enduring legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and local leaders who embody Dr. King's spirit through their continuous support for our community. Leon County School Board Member Darryl Jones will be the keynote speaker for the celebration.

This year’s honorees:
  • Community Champion Award – Tiffani-Dawn Sykes, Vice President and Athletic Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Florida A&M University
  • Community Champion Award – Michael Alford, Vice President and Director of Athletics at Florida State University
  • Excellence in Community Service Award – Dr. Ray Mobley, Tallahassee Chapter of 100 Black Men
  • Excellence in Community Service Award – G.C. Murray II, Esq., The ICE Foundation
  • Excellence in Educational Leadership Award – Dr. Larry Robinson, President of Florida A&M University
In addition to these distinguished awards, administrators from all Leon County Title 1 schools will be acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to education, including:
  • Dr. Pam Hightower, Apalachee Elementary
  • Principal Cassandra Poole, Astoria Park Elementary
  • Principal Delshauna Jackson, Bond Elementary
  • Principal Rusty Edward, Fairview Elementary
  • Principal Todd Lanter, Ft. Braden School
  • Principal Desmond Cole, Godby High School
  • Principal Zelena O’Banner, Griffin Middle School
  • Principal John Olson, Hartsfield Elementary
  • Dr. Benny Bolden, Nims Middle School
  • Dr. Jasmine Smith, Oak Ridge Elementary
  • Principal Carmen Conner, Pineview Elementary
  • Principal Doug Cook, Rickards High School
  • Principal Maurice Stokes, Riley Elementary
  • Principal Shannon Haire, Ruediger Elementary
  • Principal Shannon Davis, Sabal Palm Elementary
  • Principal Demetria Clemons, Sealey Elementary
  • Principal Amy Alvis, Second Chance
