County Awarded 11 More National Honors and Recognitions
Despite challenges faced in these unprecedented times, Leon County continues to stay focused on setting the highest standard in public service. Recently, Leon County received 11 national awards for exceptional County programs and services from the National Association of Counties (NACo), bringing the County’s total to 79 NACo awards since 2013.
Annually, NACo identifies county government best practices from across the nation. With awards in categories ranging from Civic Education and Public Information to Risk and Emergency Management, Leon County continues to be a benchmark for local governments everywhere.
“We are very proud that our County services and programs continue to receive national recognition, especially during these difficult times,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Bryan Desloge. “Our citizens can be assured that Leon County remains committed to strengthening what works, receiving citizen feedback, leveraging partnerships and listening to changing needs.”
Many of the NACo awards highlight programs, services and initiatives that advance county government and enhance services to citizens. Leon County awarded projects this year reflect a continued commitment to being a resilient, sustainable and innovative organization.
“These recognitions not only reflect the professionalism and talent of our dedicated Leon County employees, but also the vision, leadership and support provided by the Board of County Commissioners – without which none of this would be possible,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “Our continued success also reinforces all of the hard work and great emphasis we place in Leon County on living our People Focused, Performance Drive Culture. Recognitions like these continue to demonstrate that it’s working and producing results.”
In 2020, Leon County Government received the following awards for exceptional programs and services:
- #HurricaneStrong Partnership in the category of Risk and Emergency Management.
- Advanced Wastewater Treatment Pilot Program in the category of County Resiliency: Infrastructure, Energy and Sustainability.
- Advisory Committee on Quality Growth in the category of Planning.
- Apalachee Regional Park Master Plan and Landfill Conversion in the category of Parks and Recreation.
- Choose Tallahassee Marketing Partnership in the category of Community and Economic Development.
- Community Garden Program Enhancements in the category of County Resiliency: Infrastructure, Energy and Sustainability.
- Integrated Sustainability Action Plan in the category of County Resiliency: Infrastructure, Energy and Sustainability.
- Livable Infrastructure for Everyone (LIFE) Program in the category of Financial Management.
- Neighborhood Services Webpage in the category of Civic Education and Public Information.
- SMARTIES Committee in the category of County Administration and Management.
- Workforce Development Services through Leon County Libraries in the category of Libraries.
Founded in 1970, the annual NACo Achievement Award Program is an award series that recognizes innovative county government programs that increase services to county residents. Each nominated program submission includes general information, program summaries and measurable results for consideration of an Achievement Award.
