Press the Chest is an annual event that focuses on the importance of providing the community with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). County events like Press the Chest contribute to Leon County’s cardiac survival rate of 33%, which far exceeds the national average of 7%. To register, visit www.LeonCountyFL.gov/PressTheChest
This year’s Press the Chest event also features the AmeriHeart®, a fully-interactive exhibit that depicts the features of the human heart, how the heart works, and how it is affected by various ailments. The AmeriHeart® exhibit will be open from 9 a.m. until CPR training begins at 10 a.m., and directly after training until 1 p.m.
Since 2010, Leon County has trained over 7,000 people with hands-on instruction on how to do CPR correctly. Like the past eight years, highly credentialed Leon County Emergency Medical Services personnel will teach the recommendations made by the American Heart Association. These recommendations include C-A-B (Compressions-Airway-Breathing) along with the new emphasis on “Hands-Only CPR.” Participants will also be taught how to use Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). This is not a certification event.
Each participant of Press the Chest CPR 2018 will receive an American Heart Association personal “CPR Anytime” kit containing a CPR manikin, DVD, and educational materials. The kits are for participants to train family and friends on CPR. The event is hosted in collaboration with the Florida State Medical Response Unit, FSU University Health Services, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, Capital Regional Medical Center, FAMU Student Health Services, Brian Barnard Flooring America, Florida Department of Health – Office of EMS, Florida Department of Health in Leon County, and TCC EMS Program.
