UPDATE: Leon County Holiday Closures and Service Changes for Christmas
The following advisory has been updated to include information on County office closures for Wednesday, December 24.
Leon County Government will observe the Christmas holiday with the following closures and service adjustments.
Closed Thursday, December 25
- Leon County Solid Waste and Household Hazardous Waste Center
Closed Wednesday, December 24, through Friday, December 26
- Leon County offices
- Leon County libraries
- Leon County community centers
- Leon County Animal Control
Remain Open for the Holidays
- Leon County Parks and Recreation facilities (parks, greenways, campgrounds, and boat landings)
“Our County employees go above and beyond to serve this community every day,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Christian Caban. “Extending the holiday closure by one additional day is a small way to thank them for their dedication and give them more time to enjoy the holidays with family and loved ones.”
Additional Service Information
All LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library branch locations will close on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 8 p.m. and the downtown Main Library will close on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 9 p.m. All Leon County Library location will resume normal operating hours at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025.
The Leon County Solid Waste Management Facility, Rural Waste Centers, and Household Hazardous Waste Center will be closed on Thursday, December 25. Regular operating hours will resume on Friday, December 26. For more information, call the Leon County Solid Waste Management Division at 850-606-1800.
Residential waste collection routes will be delayed by one day for citizens whose normal pick-up day is Thursday or Friday of the holiday weeks. In the event of an animal-related emergency, service is available by calling the Consolidated Dispatch Agency at 850-606-5800. Leon County Animal Control encourages residents to only use this service to report dangerous or aggressive dogs, sick or injured domestic animals, and animal cruelty. Injured wildlife calls will be forwarded to the St. Francis Wildlife Association at (850) 627-4151.
Christmas Tree Disposal
Christmas trees in their natural state are accepted at the County’s Solid Waste Facility and Rural Waste Centers. To view operating hours and locations, click here. Additionally, unincorporated Leon County Waste Pro customers may place real Christmas trees (under 8 ft. or 50 lbs.) curbside for free collection with their regular yard waste.
