Leon County to Plant More Than 200 Trees in Honor of Florida's Arbor Day

Volunteers to Plant More Than 200 Trees at the St. Marks Headwaters Greenway Buck Lake Trailhead

WHO:  Leon County Government
WHAT:  Arbor Day Tree Planting
WHEN:  Saturday, January 24, 2026, starting at 8 a.m.
WHERE:  St. Marks Headwaters Greenway Buck Lake Trailhead, 10995 Buck Lake Road

Leon County Government will host the annual Arbor Day Tree Planting event in celebration of Florida's Arbor Day on Saturday, January 24, 2026, starting at 8 a.m. at the St. Marks Headwaters Greenway Buck Lake Trailhead, 10995 Buck Lake Road. Interested volunteers can register to help plant trees at VolunteerLeon.org/ArborDay.

This event supports and strengthens the hundreds of native and migratory species that call Leon County home, while also contributing to the beautification of the community and the overall improvement of the environment. Volunteers assisting with planting will help root a diverse mix of more than 200 trees, including Shumard oak, Live oak, Willow oak, Crabapple, and Beautyberry, among many others.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toed shoes and dress appropriately for the weather in clothes suitable for hands-on activities. Participants should also bring their own water, if possible. While a limited number of gloves and shovels will be available at the event, attendees are encouraged to bring their own shovels and gloves for optimal participation. Snacks and coffee will be provided, and the event will run from 8 a.m. until the last tree is planted.

The annual Arbor Day Tree Planting event is one of the County’s many ways to protect our local ecosystem. The County’s Adopt-A-Tree Program is currently running, offering unincorporated County residents the opportunity to receive free native trees to plant on their property. For more information about this program and to apply for a tree by January 31, 2026, visit LeonCountyFL.gov/AdoptATree. For residents living within Tallahassee city limits, learn more about the City of Tallahassee’s Adopt-A-Tree program by visiting Talgov.com/AdoptATree.

Leon County and the City of Tallahassee have a long history of celebrating Florida’s Arbor Day, partnering each year to protect and strengthen our local environment.
