Eastside Branch Library Update
The 4-H Insect Club, also known as “The Insectomaniacs,” is meeting at the Eastside Branch Library, which is a great location for observing insects, while the 4-H office undergoes renovations. The club meets the 4th Tuesday of every month from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Club members learn how to identify, collect, preserve and pin insect specimens, observe insects under a microscope, compete in the state-wide “Insectathon” competition and even eat insects during a special edible insect lesson! Kids can join the club by signing up through 4-H at 4-H Insect Club
Another new program at the Eastside Branch Library is Crazy 8s Math Club for Children Grades K – 2 on Wednesday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. The class introduces math skills to children by engaging them in exciting hands-on activities. The program runs for eight weeks and will end on November 20. Registration is not necessary, and children are welcome to attend any of the programs when they can.
The Eastside Branch Library now presents a “Stay and Play” program immediately following BabyTime. BabyTime and “Stay and Play” are held Tuesday mornings beginning at 11:30 a.m. and are for babies and toddlers ages 0-3 years old and their parent/guardians. BabyTime is led by a librarian and features rhymes, songs and short stories that appeal to babies and toddlers. “Stay and Play” is an unstructured program that encourages babies and toddlers to explore sensory toys and interact with each other.
The Teen Authors Guild, for students in grades 6-12, is meeting every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 4:30 - 6 p.m. under the direction of local author M.R. Street. Young authors are welcome to join the meetings where they will share ideas, refine skills, and write and critique together.
The Bucket List Book Club meets every 4th Thursday at 6 p.m. and after eight years of reading and meeting together continues to be a fun, friendly and educational program. New members are always welcome.
The Eastside Branch Library is uniquely located next to one of our County’s most picturesque parks, the Pedrick Pond Park. This location benefits Library patrons as they enjoy the beautiful outdoor setting as well as the services of the Library. In June, Leon County installed a “signature tree planting” of 125 Crabapple trees along the Pedrick Pond Park trail near the Library. The trees will provide shade along the 0.7-mile trail and will become a beautiful sight in the spring when they bloom. We hope you will find some time to visit our beautiful and unique branch library.
