Leon County Mobilizes Essential Services During Prolonged Water Outage Impacting 44 Homes

Leon County Government continues coordinating a response to a prolonged water outage impacting approximately 44 homes in the vicinity of Aenon Church Trail and Whitehill Lane. Residents have reported being without running water for five or more days, creating immediate public health and sanitation concerns.

Upon being notified Wednesday morning, Leon County quickly organized outreach and assessment teams and engaged public health partners to verify conditions and address urgent resident needs. Preliminary information indicates the disruption is tied to privately maintained water infrastructure on the property. Property management reported to Leon County Emergency Management that broken pipes—potentially related to recent extended cold weather—may have contributed to the outage.

“I’m proud of Leon County’s quick, coordinated response to protect residents and meet essential needs as soon as we learned of the situation,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Christian Caban. “From bottled water distribution and sanitation resources to direct outreach and clear communication, County teams are busy supporting impacted families and keeping residents safe.”

Leon County’s coordinated response is focused on sustaining essential services until potable water access is restored. County Emergency Management worked with the Florida Department of Health in Leon County to conduct an on-site assessment, including inspection of water connections/spigots and evaluation of access to water. To help meet immediate needs, the County distributed bottled water to affected properties and will continue distribution as long as potable water is unavailable.

Given the duration of the outage and the uncertain restoration timeline, the County has also coordinated the deployment of mobile sanitation resources to support basic hygiene needs, including a restroom trailer, handwashing stations, and a shower trailer. Resources are being deployed Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

“Leon County remains committed to serving our citizens and safeguarding lives and access to essential services,” said Leon County Administrator Vince S. Long. “We will continue coordinating with our public health partners and other agencies to ensure residents have necessary support while water service is restored by the property owner as quickly as possible.”

County teams have also conducted door-to-door outreach, collected resident contact information, and will continue providing direct notifications and updates to affected residents as additional information becomes available.
