• Age Requirements
    ‚Äč To apply you must be a junior or senior at an LCS high school and at least 16-years-old by the start of the program. Students applying for the EMT/Paramedic Junior Apprenticeship must be at least 17-years-old.
     
  • Minimum GPA and Absences
    To apply, you must have a 2.5 minimum GPA and no more than 5 school absences per nine weeks.
     
  • Work Schedule
    If selected for the program, you must be able to take the Junior Apprenticeship as an elective during your last class period of the day. Students applying for the Fleet Mechanic Junior Apprenticeship must be able to take the Junior Apprenticeship as an elective class on Fridays from 1pm to 5pm. Confirm this with your school guidance counselor before applying.
     
  • Transportation
    If selected for the program, you must be able to provide your own transportation to your Leon County work site.
     
  • Related Coursework
    To apply you must be enrolled in or have previously completed a Career & Technical Education (CTE) program or other coursework that is related to the Junior Apprenticeship positions you are applying for. Students applying for the Fleet Mechanic Junior Apprenticeship must be dual enrolled in the Automotive Services Technology Program at Lively Technical Center.

Selected Junior Apprentices will work in a Leon County department for one semester (5 months).

Junior Apprentices earn the hourly minimum wage ($8.10/hour). Up to $375 in incentives may also be earned for continuous engagement in the CareerSource Capital Region Dynamic Futures training.

A CTE course or program prepares students to earn an industry-recognized certification or licensure. More information about Career & Technical Education in Leon County can be found here.

Yes, students may apply for a maximum of 2 Junior Apprenticeship positions. Please use the same application to apply for both positions. Only the first 2 positions selected by the applicant will be documented.

Past Junior Apprentices are not eligible to reapply for the program, but should consider applying for County’s Summer Youth Training Program.

Yes, students participating in the program will take the Junior Apprenticeship as an elective during their last class period. Before applying to the Program, students should meet with their guidance counselor to discuss whether the Junior Apprenticeship will fit into their course schedule.

During the Dynamic Futures training provided by CareerSource Capital Region, you will learn about budgeting, time management, customer service, being a team player, and more! You will also take courses that will result in certifications for all of the Microsoft Office Suite products and will create a portfolio to showcase your hard work!
