Message from Library Director Pamela Monroe

Hi Friends,

Did you know May is National Get Caught Reading Month? In 1999, the Association of American Publishers founded the Get Caught Reading campaign to promote the impact books have on young people, but it can be so much bigger than that! As we prepare for summer, it is important to keep the reading momentum going. Here are a few tips to help you, your kids, your friends, and everyone you know "Get Caught Reading."

  • Enjoy a quick read by checking out magazines on Flipster! This is perfect for when you only have a little bit of free time.
  • Scatter books around the house. Cookbooks for the kitchen, graphic novels in the loft, or art books on the coffee table. Short reads are great for reluctant readers and busy people.
  • Read during times of stress to help distract and refocus.
  • Create a routine with the kids. Though reading every night may be ideal, for some, it is unrealistic. Find a day and time that work for your family and try to stick to them.
  • Take your reading outside with our Wander and Wonder Trails. The weather is nice, and the birds are singing. Take the time to enjoy nature with a book.

As we embrace National Get Caught Reading Month, let’s remember the profound impact words can have on our lives and seize every opportunity to dive into reading.

Amazing things are happening,
Pamela Monroe, Library Director
