Public Safety Coordinating Council

The Public Safety Coordinating Council (PSCC) was established by the Leon County Board of County Commissioners in 2001. The Council has met regularly since that time to monitor the jail’s population as well as increase efforts of coordination between the many agencies of the criminal justice system. The PSCC serves as an advisory committee to the Board and makes recommendations to help alleviate overcrowding in the county jail. Recommendations may include the continuation or expansion of existing programs, the establishment of new programs, or other alternatives that may aid in the alleviation of jail crowding.

The PSCC, by statute, is comprised of the following individuals or their representatives:

  • State Attorney, or an assistant state attorney as designated by the State Attorney
  • Public Defender, or an assistant public defender as designated by the Public Defender
  • Chief Circuit Judge, or another circuit judge as designated by the Chief Circuit Judge
  • Chief County Judge, or another county judge as designated by the Chief County Judge
  • Sheriff - Chief Correctional Officer
  • State Probation Circuit Administrator, or a member designated by the State Probation Circuit Administrator, appointed to a 4-year term
  • Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, or another County Commissioner as designee
  • County Probation Director, appointed by the County Administrator to a 4-year term
  • Director of a local substance abuse treatment program, or designee, appointed to a 4-year term
