About Yen Bailey

What motivated you to become a Director for the Friends of the Library?

I am an avid reader and have used our library's many resources since I moved to Tallahassee. When I discovered that there was a way to give back, I wanted to get involved.

What superpowers do you bring to the FOL Board?

I am great at reimagining and repurposing resources.

Where were you born, and how long have you lived in Tallahassee?

I was born in Ft. Walton Beach and moved to Tallahassee in 1999.

What is your favorite reading genres?

This is a tough one because my tastes in books are pretty diverse. However, I'd say I usually gravitate toward books that have some fantasy aspect to them.

What is your favorite book of all time?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Name three recent books you would highly recommend:

  • Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson
  • Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
  • A Hero Born by Jin Yong

Do you prefer to read printed books, ebooks or audiobooks?

These days most of the books I "read" are audiobooks because I can listen to them while I'm doing other things, but if I had all the time in the world, nothing beats a nice printed book.

Where is your favorite place to read?

I love to listen to audiobooks while I'm working on projects in my craft room.

What do you do in your spare time?

I like to sew and do other crafts, hike with my family, watch geeky TV shows, and, of course, read.

Are you a dog lover or cat lover?

Although I do like dogs, I have 3 cats, so I am definitely a cat lover!
