About Virginia Milne

What motivated you to become a Director for the Friends of the Library?

The library was a refuge for me during my Junior High School years. A mile from my house, it was cool in summer and warm in winter and quiet. I was a member of The Friends of the Library in Miami and when I moved next door to Julie Lovelace I had no choice!

What superpowers do you bring to the FOL Board?

Forty years of studying and teaching Art and Design have given me the skills to make anything look better. I love to put those skills to use, whether it be signage or setting up tables and chairs.

Where were you born, and how long have you lived in Tallahassee?

I was born in St Louis, lived in Chicago, Miami, Turks and Caicos, and have been in Tallahassee for 12 years.

What is your favorite reading genre?

My favorite genre is East Indian Literature. It is usually written in English originally and yet it is exotic. I love the culture and ancient history of India.

What is your favorite book of all time?

I just finished reading A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth for the second time and it is definitely one of my favourites.

Name three recent books you would highly recommend:

  • Successful Aging by Daniel J. Levitin
  • A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
  • Mama Makes Up Her Mind Bailey White

Do you prefer to read printed books, ebooks or audiobooks?

I prefer to read printed books.

Where is your favorite place to read?

I love to read outdoors, whether at the beach, in a lawn chair or on the porch. The sounds of wind and nature calm my mind and I can be carried away by the words.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I garden, do some art, work a puzzle or read a book.

Are you a dog lover or cat lover?

I am most definitely a cat and dog lover. In my life I have had eight cats and five dogs. Currently we have Lulu a cat and Milo from the great dog continuum
