About Morgan Evers

What motivated you to become a Director for the Friends of the Library?

I have been in the world of early learning and literacy for some time. The library has always been a wonderful partner to work with locally, especially around community events supporting early childhood literacy. When the opportunity presented itself, it was an easy yes!

What superpowers do you bring to the FOL Board?

Oh goodness. I don’t know about superpowers. I am a connector of all things. I love connecting people to people or resources they need. I would say my superpower is connection in general, but connection to community more specifically.

Where were you born, and how long have you lived in Tallahassee?

I was born in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. I moved up here to Tallahassee to attend Florida State University in 2003. I have been here now 20 years.

What is your favorite reading genres?

I love realistic fiction and biographies. I love seeing who people are/were, where they came from, what they have done with their time on earth, what adventures they went on, and how they have left a legacy for the next generations to come.

What is your favorite book of all time?

To Kill a Mockingbird or Tess of the D’Urbervilles. Both books I read in high school. We analyzed every bit of both books as a full group. The conversations and debates that occurred showed me how differently books and characters could be interpreted based on your own life experiences or lack thereof.

Name three recent books you would highly recommend:

  • When We Believed in Mermaids by Barbara O’Neal
  • Michelle Obama’s The Light We Carry
  • I’m Still Standing by Rich Conlin

Do you prefer to read printed books, ebooks or audiobooks?

I like books I can hold in my hands the most, but with two young kids, ebooks and audiobooks have become my more realistic go to.

Where is your favorite place to read?

I am not picky, but my ability to focus and tune out are worse the older I have gotten. Anywhere quiet!

What do you do in your spare time?

Go on adventures with my kids, husband, and dog. On the side, I create fun graphics and items for events. Designing pretty things have a start and stop. The advocacy and initiatives work I do every day does not ever end. It is nice to have a creative outlet!

Are you a dog lover or cat lover?

Definitely a dog lover! I am super allergic to cats.
