About Dale Ann Dehart Grigas

What motivated you to become a Director for the Friends of the Library?

My lifelong love of libraries and books was the driving force that led me to become a FOL Board member.

What superpowers do you bring to the FOL Board?

My superpowers are enthusiasm and being receptive to the ideas of others.

Where were you born, and how long have you lived in Tallahassee?

I’m a native New Yorker (Long Island), but have lived in Tallahassee since I came here for graduate school many years ago.

What is your favorite reading genres?

My favorite genres are historical fiction and biographies/memoirs.

What is your favorite book of all time?

Choosing just one book as my favorite book of all time was so difficult. I finally settled on To Kill A Mockingbird, a classic I first read in high school and have re-read at different points in my life.

Name three recent books you would highly recommend:

  • The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
  • The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Meissner
  • Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates

Do you prefer to read printed books, ebooks or audiobooks?

I was reluctant to give up my printed books, but now read ebooks almost exclusively. I also love to listen to audiobooks, especially during long car trips.

Where is your favorite place to read?

A favorite place to read is in my comfortable living room chair, with one of my dogs snuggled in next to me. Having a glass of wine nearby and a fire in the fireplace (on a cold night) make this spot even more ideal!

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I love to read, spend time with friends and family, take long walks, plan travel adventures, and travel.

Are you a dog lover or cat lover?

I’m a dog lover and have two sweet dogs, Penny Lane and Parker.
