About Jenn Goudeau

What motivated you to become a director for the Friends of the Library?

As a former librarian, I am a firm advocate for libraries and all of the amazing services they offer to citizens! When I moved to Tallahassee, I knew it was a priority for me to get involved in the local library. I love feeling empowered to assist the library with providing for the community!

What superpowers do you bring to the FOL Board?

I like to think my graphic design skills have been helpful! I’m pretty good at Canva, which I hope has helped improve our communications!

Where were you born, and how long have you been in Tallahassee?

I was born in Michigan, but moved to Lousiana when I was 6 years old. I moved to Florida in August of 2023.

What are your favorite reading genres?

I love fantasy and science fiction! I will read anything, but those are my favorite. I also read a lot of nonfiction history books.

What is your favorite book of all time?

Neil Gaiman once said, “Picking five favorite books is like picking the five body parts you’d most like not to lose.” I agree completely with that. With that said, though, there are a few books I enjoy reading again and again. Strange Practice by Vivian Shaw is one of my current favorites – I just finished by third or fourth reread of that series.

Name three recent books you would highly recommend

Starter Villain by John Scalzi

Nettle and Bone by T. Kingfisher

The Poisoner’s Handbook by Deborah Blum

Do you prefer to read printed books, ebooks, or audiobooks?

I love all three! A book never runs out of battery, but a kindle never runs out of book, which is why I’m normally carrying both. I choose my purses based on whether or not they can hold a hardcover book.

I love audiobooks for my work commute and to keep me company while I’m doing dishes.

Where is your favorite place to read?

My front porch! I just moved into a historic house in Quincy, which has a screened in porch. I’m enjoying being outside without fighting off any bugs

What do you do in your spare time?

I have more hobbies than I can count! I Love to read and make time for it every day. I also love to bake. I crochet, knit, and sew, and am learning the accordion. My husband and I also love playing video games together and taking our dogs on adventures

Are you a dog lover or a cat lover?

I love both, but I have two big dogs at home who have me wrapped around their toes!
