What encouraged you to work in this career field?
During my senior year of high school, I participated in Project Invest at Godby High School. Project Invest was a program sponsored by Independent Insurance Agents. Through the program, I learned the basic operations of an independent insurance agency and an insurance company. This experience jump-started my interest in the insurance field.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Over the last 35 years, I have helped thousands clients in our community to protect their assets in the event of a loss. We are also very involved in numerous community projects here at Rogers, Gunter, Vaughn and giving back is part of our culture.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
Being able to mentor and guide future insurance leaders on their path through the industry has been a wonderful experience through my role as Commercial Lines Department Manager.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
Throughout my career, I have been able to help numerous clients with difficult insurance needs that affect their business’ success. Including procuring hard to place coverages to meet the requirements of our client’s vendors. Additionally, in 1996, I earned my Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) Designation which is the insurance industry’s leading designation.

What motivates you daily?
At Rogers, Gunter, Vaughn Insurance we foster a cooperative work environment which enables employees to work together to solve even the toughest insurance related issues for our clients.

What education/training does a person need to get started in your field?
After several years of on the job training and experience, I earned my professional Property and Casualty Insurance License through the State of Florida. An insurance agent also needs to have excellent communications skills and a service personality when working with the public. Additionally, I also attend regular updates and continuing education classes on the most current insurance topics.

What advice do you have for those considering entering into a career in your career field?
I would recommend participating in an insurance related internship at a local agency to get an understanding of what it is like for an insurance agent today.

What can I share about the experience with other’s on the same path?
You can go as far as you want in this field with or without a degree. Success is up to the individual. You can be successful as an insurance agent with your professional license, experience and a drive to achieve!
