The City of Tallahassee

The City of Tallahassee's Water Utility is responsible for water, waste and stormwater operations. Leon Soil and Water Conservation District 

The Leon Soil and Water Conservation District is comprised of 5 elected volunteer Supervisors who work together to promote public health through the protection of natural resources.

Talquin Electric Cooperative 

Talquin Electric Cooperative provides electricity to approximately 53,000 accounts and provides water and wastewater services from Florida's Gulf coast to the Florida state line, including portions of Tallahassee and the surrounding areas.

Northwest Florida Water Management District 

The mission of the Northwest Florida Water Management District is to implement the provisions of Chapter 373, Water Resources, Florida Statues, in a manner that best ensures the continued welfare of the residents and water resources of Northwest Florida. The District works to ensure a clean and adequate water supply, protect water quality, promote flood protection and improve natural systems in the Northwest Florida Panhandle Region.

Florida Department of Environmental Protection 

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) monitors water quality, sets restoration goals for surface waters and oversees restoration activities. FDEP implements state laws providing for the protection of the quality of Florida's drinking water, ground water, rivers, lakes, estuaries and wetlands; reclamation of mined lands; and the preservation of the state's beach and dune systems. FDEP also functions as oversight over public water systems and assists local governments and other entities by providing funding for drinking water, stormwater and wastewater projects and oversees water management districts as they implement water supply and water quality protection programs. Florida Department of Health

The Florida Department of Health works to prevent disease of environmental origin. Environmental activities focus on prevention, preparedness, and education and are implemented through routine monitoring, education, surveillance and sampling of facilities and conditions that may contribute to the occurrence or transmission of disease.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission 

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) manages and regulates Florida's fish and wildlife resources and enforces related laws and regulations through its division of law enforcement. The following outlines responsibilities of the FWC:

United States Environmental Protection Agency 

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) works to protect human and environmental health by researching the effects of and mandating limits on the use of pollutants. The EPA regulates the manufacturing, processing, distribution and use of chemicals and other pollutants and is responsible for determining safe tolerance levels for chemicals and other pollutants in food, animal feed and water. The EPA also works to ensure that:

  • Americans have clean air, land and water; 
  • Efforts to reduce environmental risks are based on scientific information; 
  • Federal laws protecting human health and environment are administered fairly; 
  • Environmental stewardship is considered in establishing environmental policy; 
  • The public has access to accurate information regarding human health and environmental risks; 
  • Contaminated lands and toxic sites are cleaned up by responsible agencies; and 
  • Chemicals in the marketplace are reviewed for safety.
