Dr. William Lewis Moor was born in Cumming, Georgia, on May 1, 1852. He moved to Miccosukee in 1876 and later to Tallahassee in 1884. He practiced medicine, engaged in farming, and ran a small drug store. He served as Mayor of Tallahassee twice and was a delegate to the Democratic Convention in Jacksonville in 1900. He served as a County Commissioner from 1900 to 1902. He was director of the G.F.A. Railroad and later established and was president of the Southern Telephone and Construction Company. He received permission to put up poles and wires in Tallahassee starting in 1895. After the explosion in popularity of the telephone, Moor worked to expand the lines to various counties beyond Leon in 1905. Moor died January 15, 1927, and is buried at Old City Cemetery.
