William Calvin “Buddy” Holley III was born on December 14, 1940, in Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Tallahassee’s Lincoln High School in 1958 and earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Florida State University in 1962. He worked as vice president of Holley, Inc., a local industrial supply firm. Holley was elected to the Leon County Board of County Commissioners in 1967 and served until 1979, representing the citizens of District 4. He supported the creation of the County Administrator position to lead County departments, a new County library, and senior citizen facilities. He was selected as Board Chairman from 1971-1972. He was a member of the Tallahassee Jaycees, Seminole Boosters, Alpha Tau Omega, Leon County Alumni Association, and Tallahassee Rotary Club. He died on October 3, 2023, and is buried at Roselawn Cemetery.
