Travis Paul Marchant was born in Chipley, Florida, on May 7, 1943. He graduated from Chipley High School and Florida State University in 1969. He was a business owner and also worked as executive director of the Tallahassee Housing Authority before becoming a community development specialist at the State Department of Community Affairs. He was elected to the Leon County Board of County Commissioners in 1973. During his time on the Commission, he supported improving thoroughfares, sewer facilities, storm drains, and other environmental safeguards; preserving and restoring of the County’s lakes and streams; a flood insurance program; and building codes. Marchant was a strong advocate for the creation of Tom Brown Park. He was elected Board Chairman from 1975-1976. Active in the housing development community, he was president of the Tallahassee Housing Foundation and member of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, Florida Association of Read Estate Brokers, and Tallahassee Board of Realtors. He died on March 3, 2018, and is buried at Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley, Florida.
