Born in Halifax County, North Carolina, on November 15, 1800, Richard Henry Bradford Sr. and his family moved to Florida around 1832. They became planters near Bradfordville, about 10 miles north of Tallahassee. He served on the Leon County Board of County Commissioner from 1845-1847. Bradford died in 1883 and is buried in the Bradford-Eppes Cemetery in Leon County.
