Nick Maddox grew up in Kannapolis, North Carolina, before moving to Tallahassee, Florida, to attend Florida State University. He was the running back for FSU’s 1999 Championship team and played two years of professional football for the Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers, and Carolina Panthers.
He was elected to the Leon County Board of County Commissioners in 2010, and served as Chairman of the Board in 2012-2013, 2017-2018, and 2022-2023. During his time on the Commission, he has been committed to promoting diversity, job growth, infrastructure development, increased transparency, addressing homelessness and affordable housing, and community engagement.
Maddox is active in the community, serving as the 2019-2020 President of the Florida Association of Counties and on local, regional, and state boards as appointed, including the Leon County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, CareerSource Capital Region Workforce Development Consortium, and Tallahassee Sports Council.
