Lewis Simpson “Simp” Crump was born on May 20, 1865, in Leon County. He was a farmer in Capitola, about 12 miles outside of Tallahassee, and cultivated corn, cotton, potatoes, and peanuts and raised hogs to sell for pork. He opened a general store in Capitola in 1917. Crump served as a Leon County Commissioner representing District 1 from 1909-1920. While serving on the Board, he supported the creation and maintenance of County roadways. He served as Chairman of the Board from 1918-1919. He lived in Tallahassee until his death on November 3, 1933, and is buried in the Old Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery.
