Jonah Britt was born on September 5, 1869, in Tallahassee and lived in his hometown his whole life. He made his living as a farmer then opened a very successful meat market with business partner H. B. Barineau in 1923, which they called Britt & Barineau. He served as Leon County District 4 Commissioner for two terms from 1903-1904 and 1911-1912. He died on November 30, 1944, and is buried in Oakland Cemetery.
